Optimizing Android applications to work properly

Android is an operating system that we have access to a large number of applications of various kinds. From small applications created by a student to other huge created by large companies.
Sometimes these applications work well, while in other cases they will give more of a headache . Occasionally we find an application that happens to work well to get worse gradually. Today we will learn to optimize Android applications for the most extreme cases.

Is an application malfunctioning, or the phone?

The first thing we have to analyze before starting to optimize Android applications is to ask the following question Does bad only a particular application, or the fault of our phone no longer give more of themselves ? Faced with this question, the answer can be obtained easily in the following ways.

Clear cache and application data

The first step we should take is to go to Settings-> Applications. From here, we look for the particular application we want to make it go more polished, and will do two things, in this order.

First  we delete the cache . The cache is a temporary set of data that each application creates and stores to save some data processing in particular. Usually it makes applications run faster, but when it fails you get the opposite effect. Clear the cache of an application from time to time is a good way to make this work properly, but you should not play it much, just in case of problems.

If, after clearing the cache away the problems, the problem will have been solved, but otherwise we will have to continue working on a solution.  Deleting application data is another good method if there is a problem with the data in the application, we can fix very easily.

Sometimes require applications to write data to Android's internal storage for storing data or cache. We may have solved the problem momentarily to clear the data and cache of an application, but if you have limited space, the problem would recur .

If we go to Settings-> Storage can see the footprint of the system and available in the system. As a personal recommendation, please have at least 1GB of storage available to save inconvenience of this type, and never less than 512MB. If you have too many photos and music, you should consider passing them to a computer, flash drive or microSD card.

Moves the data to the SD card if possible

Some applications like games occupy a large storage space of our device, and if we are not careful what we install, can finish filling the internal storage of your phone . As reviewed in the previous section, it is not something that interests us.

Some application data can be moved to external storage, so if your smartphone has microSD card, it is a strategy that we should consider. To move the application data to the microSD card, we will dirijirnos to  Settings-> Applications and look for the application you want to move some data. Once we have found, we click on  to move the data to the microSD card.

Watch out for updates

Updates are one of the biggest problems and solutions that we can find in the modern world. Sometimes often part of the problem, while at other times they can be part of the solution. It is not the first time after an upgrade, an application has begun to operate in worse shape. Should our application malfunction,  it is desirable to update , if the new version solves problems, but otherwise our preventive recommendation is to not update.

The recommendation of not part of a very popular saying that  if it works, do not touch it.  Or what is the same, whether the application works well, do not be in a hurry to update it, since new upgrades could reduce performance. If you want to try the new version, we recommend you  create a backup of the application before making a big upgrade, to go back if it does not work. So, if that works well will be no harm done, but if something goes wrong, we will have a point to return to.

Try betas

Many applications have a beta version, from which test new features added so that users can test it before it reaches the public . If by now you have not got the application to work correctly, perhaps a step we should consider trying the beta version of the application itself.

True, with a beta version sometimes we can find some bugs , but sometimes just enjoying quite polished versions, so if all else has failed us, is another option to consider.

Lite versions, Web or alternative applications

Finally, the last option we have left to try is to try  to lite versions  or reduced. Such applications are usually more limited in features, but ensures a lower consumption of resources , making it easier to work properly. Similarly, we can also use the web versions of applications available as Twitter, Facebook or Gmail among others.
Should these options not work, we will play to leave the application you are giving us problems or decide to live with these problems . If it is abandoned, it's likely that Google Play can find alternatives to our application that we provide the same functionality without our problems.
